The tour has been a great run so far, especially the Melbourne leg. My show at the Kew Courthouse with The Hootie Tooties as part of the Matsumura Blues Festival’s Jailhouse Concert Series was a packed, sold-out hit. We filmed the show, so I’ll be posting excerpts from that as soon as I get my hands on them.
It was a real pleasure getting to know The Hootie Tooties, who are a folk party band with solid songs and some very tight harmony work. Last week, we popped into Blues On The Hill on 3NRG 99.3 FM in Sunbury, where I played my tune A Fetching Hat and had a bit of a chat. Then we were invited to do a spot at the Shake Shake blues night at Thornbury Bowls Club, which was a totally new context for me. I love a lot of blues records but have never really delved into that sound or scene, so it was a fantastic adventure to be welcomed into it. After a day of getting our act together up at a scenic Yarra Valley rehearsal room, we blew the roof off of the courthouse.
I joined The Hooties during their set for a full-band take on my song Who Where, with the most delicious harmonies imaginable. I can’t imagine the song without those anymore, so I guess they’re just part of it.
For the rest of my time here, I’ve been out on the street busking around the Melbourne CBD. It’s a fun city to busk in - folks love their artists here and aren’t afraid to show it with nice tips and good chats. I’ve extended my trip until May 1 so I can make the most of how much fun I’m having.
Yesterday, I popped into Dave Graney’s show Banana Lounge Broadcasting on 3RRR. We had a wide-ranging chat about my songwiting and shows, which I reckon is probably a good primer if you’re not sure of what I get up to. I played a couple of in-progress mixes from my upcoming album and did a live take on Naked In A Stagnant Pool, which is probably my favourite song of mine.

A big ta to everyone who has come out to the shows, popped me on a stage or stopped by my lil’ busking sets. It’s been a great trip so far.
